# How to Configure Filters in a CRM: Guide Series

GudHub offers four elements for filtering records. Each helps you find the data you need, but each provides a different way to work with filter conditions. In this series, we’ll walk through how to configure and use each element with practical examples.

When working with data every day, you often need to filter records using the same fields repeatedly. The **Filter Advanced** element lets you place these filters directly on an app page, for example, next to a table.

## Step-by-Step Guide to Configuring Filter Advanced

For this example, we’ll set up a filter panel that allows users to quickly filter records by title and status.

### Step 1. Select the Data Source and the Element to Filter

Open **“Edit Field”** for the Filter Advanced element. Under **“App to Filter List”**, select the app containing the records. Under **“Bind to Field”**, select the **Table** or **Cards** element you want to filter.

The data source can be the current app or another app you have access to. However, the linked Table or Cards element must be located in the current app.

Note that **Filter Advanced** can be linked to only one element.

### Step 2. Configure Filter Value Persistence

By default, filter values are saved when you reload the page or return to the app. This is useful when users want to continue working with the same filtered results.

If you want filter values to reset, enable **“Disable Filter Autosave”**. The previously entered values will then no longer be retained after the page is reloaded or the app is reopened.

For this example, we’ll leave this option disabled so users can return to their previous filter settings.

### Step 3. Choose the Always-Visible Fields

In the field list, enable the toggles next to the title and status fields. These fields will always be displayed in the **Filter Advanced** panel.

To change their order, drag a field using the handle marked with three horizontal lines. For example, we’ll place the status field first, followed by the title.

Users can add other available fields while working with the filter. However, these additional fields will disappear after the page is reloaded. The panel will retain only the fields you specified in the settings.

### Step 4. Choose a Filter Type for Each Field

In the next column, select how each field’s values should be matched. The available options depend on the field’s data type.

For example, you can filter titles by whether they contain specific text and filter statuses by an exact value. The selected filter type will remain assigned to the corresponding field.

Note that not all elements support filtering. For example, filter types are not available for **Close** and **Sharing**.

### Step 5. Test the Filter Panel

Return to the app and enter values in the configured fields. Check that the Table or Cards element displays the matching records.

Then reload the page. If **“Disable Filter Autosave”** is turned off, the values you entered should still be there.

**Filter Advanced** makes it easier to handle common queries: the required fields are always available, and the filtering method is already configured.
